• Sommario/riassunto: This paper presents a simple model of optimal reserves that can be easily calibrated to compute optimal reserves as well as the implied probability of a sudden stop for given reserves. The model builds upon ; the global games framework of Morris and Shin to establish a unique relationship between the probability of a sudden stop and the level of reserves. The calibration results for 15 selected emerging market countries in Latin America, Asia and other regions over the sample period of 1993-2006 suggest that the risk of sudden stops may have declined to a low level in recent years in all countri

• Sommario/riassunto: Die "Theoretische Festkörperphysik" gibt in zwei Bänden eine Einführung in Methoden, Inhalte und Ergebnisse der modernen Festkörperphysik. Der vorliegende erste Band baut auf dem Grundkurs Theoretische Physik auf, d.h. vorausgesetzt werden Kenntnisse in klassischer Mechanik, Elektrodynamik und insbesondere Quantenmechanik und Statistischer Physik. Der für die Behandlung von Vielteilchen-Effekten unumgängliche Formalismus der 2. Quantisierung (Besetzungszahldarstellung) wird im Buch eingeführt und benutzt. Der Inhalt des ersten Bandes behandelt die klassischen Gebiete der Festkörperphysik (Phononen und Elektronen im periodischen Potential, Bloch-Theorem, Hartree-Fock-Näherung, Dichtefunktional-Theorie, Elektron-Phonon-Wechselwirkung). Der erste Band ist bereits für Bachelor-Studierende geeignet, die sich über den Grundkurs in theoretischer Physik hinaus bereits in ein Anwendungsgebiet der theoretischen Physik einarbeiten wollen, z.B. für ein Wahlfach ; "Theoretische (Festkörper-)Physik" oder als Grundlage für eine Bachelor-Arbeit. Auch jeder experimentell arbeitende Festkörperphysiker sollte die im ersten Band behandelten theoretischen Methoden kennen. Der Inhalt des ersten Bandes kann daher auch Grundlage für ein Modul "Festkörperphysik" im Master-Studiengang Physik sein oder zusammen mit dem Inhalt des 2. Bandes für ein Modul "Theoretische Festkörperphysik" oder "Fortgeschrittene Theoretische Ph ysik". Der folgende zweite Band erstreckt sich über Anwendungsgebiete wie Supraleitung und Magnetismus bis zu Gebieten, die aktueller Forschungsgegenstand sind (z.B. Quanten-Hall-Effekt, Hoch-Temperatur-Supraleitung, niederdimensionale Strukturen). Die vorliegende 4. Auflage wurde um weitere Übungsaufgaben ergänzt und die Lösungen zu den Aufgaben wurden mit ins Buch aufgenommen. Der Autor Gerd Czycholl, geboren am 27.1.1951 in Köln, Studium der Physik in Köln, Diplom 1974, Promotion 1977 an der Universität zu Köln, danach Postdoc (wissenschaftlicher Assistent) an der Universität Dortmund und 1983-84 an der Stanford University, Habilitation 1985 an der Universität Dortmund, danach Zeit-Professuren in Dortmund und 1987-1990 an der RWTH Aachen. Seit 1991 Professor für Theoretische Physik an der Universität Bremen.
