This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Conference On Smart Homes and and Health Telematics, ICOST 2007, held in Nara, Japan in June 2007. The 25 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 81 submissions. The papers address current research in augmented environments with the ability to consolidate embedded computers, information appliances, micro/nano systems, and multi-modal sensors to offer people unprecedented levels of access to information and assistance from information and communication technology. The papers present the latest approaches and technical solutions in the area of smart homes, health telematics, and emerging enabling technologies.
