يتقفّى الكاتب آثار «النصوص المكتوبة والمقروءة والمطبوعة» عَبْر مختلف العصور التاريخية: بَحَث عنها في الكثير من مكتبات العالم، لكنه بحث عنها داخل نفسه أيضاً. يتذكّر الكلمة الأولى التي قرأها، ويتحدّث عن شغفه الكبير بالقراءة منذ نعومة أظفاره، ويروي قصّة علاقته بالكاتب الكبير الكفيف خورخه لويس بورخيس الذي كان يقرأ عليه في بوينس آيرس مدّة عامين كاملين يوماً بعد يوم. ثم ينتقل إلى بدايات الكتابة وإلى فنّ طباعة الكتب والأدب وشكل الكتاب، وإلى فعل القراءة وسلطانها.+++يقدّم مانغويل نخبة من عظماء العالم الذين كانوا يكتبون ويحبون القراءة مثل أرسطو، ولوفكرافت، وابن الهيثم، وأولفر ساك، ومريم المجدلية، والقديس أوغسطينُس، وريلكه. ويحدّثنا عن قصّة الأمير الفارسي الذي كان يصطحب مكتبته المؤلّفة من 117000 كتاب على ظهر قافلة من الجمال مصنّفة بحسب الأحرف الأبجدية. ولا ينسى أيضاً حكاية أكبر سارق للكتب في العالم، الدوق ليبري، أو قصّة عمال التبغ في كوبا الذين كانوا يحبون الاستماع إلى قراءة الكتب حتى أطلقوا أسماء أبطال الروايات الأدبية على أنواع سيجارهم. |
