Dit zevende deel in de reeks Tekst in Context presenteert vijf grote ridderavonturen waarin Walewein de hoofdrol speelt. Deze avonturen zijn afkomstig uit de middeleeuwse 'Roman van Walewein' (geschreven rond 1260) die wordt beschouwd als de allermooiste Nederlandse Arturroman. In dit middeleeuwse verhaal moet Walewein voor koning Artur een magisch schaakbord gaan zoeken. Nauwelijks heeft hij het kasteel verlaten of hij bevindt zich middenin allerlei avonturen.
