• Sommario/riassunto: Le catholicisme québécois est devenu discret. Quoiqu'il connaisse des taux de pratique de plus en plus bas, il représente une réalité culturelle incontournable. Tout en faisant état des données empiriques disponibles à son égard, tant qualitatives que quantitatives, l'auteur tente d'en réinterpréter l'histoire contemporaine. Il découvre alors un catholicisme populaire aux multiples facettes: engagements à la base, effervescence religieuse, communion émotionnelle, affirmation de valeurs universelles, éclatement de l'imaginaire. Ce catholicisme transgresse souvent l'institution qui l'a porté au monde. Celle-ci pourtant, quoiqu'aux prises avec sa propre quête d'identité, reste le référent naturel de la quête de sens de la très grande majorité des citoyens.; Quebec Catholicism has become discrete. Although the level of practice has become lower and lower, Catholicism represents an undeniable cultural reality. The author, while presenting the empirical data available in this regard, both qualitative and quantitative, attempts a ; reinterpretation of contemporary history. He discovers a many-faceted popular Catholicism: involvement at the base, religious effervescence, emotional communion, affirmation of universal values, explosion of the imaginary. This Catholicism often transgresses the institution which gave birth to it. The latter, however, although grappling with its own quest for identity, remains the natural referent in the quest for meaning of the very great majority of citizens.; El catolicismo quebequence se ha vuelto discreto. A pesar de presentar tasas de práctica cada vez más bajas, representa una realidad cultural ineludible. Al mismo tiempo que presenta los datos empíricos disponibles en relación a él, tanto cualitativos como cuantitativos, el autor trata de re-interpretar la historia contemporánea. El descubre un catolicismo popular a múltiples facetas : compromiso de la base, efervecencia religiosa, comunión emocional, afirmación de valores universales, explosión del imaginario. Este catolicismo transgrede continuamente la institución que lo trajo al mundo. Esta última, a pesar de estar frente a frente a su propia búsqueda de identidad, continúa siendo el referente natural de la búsqueda de un sentido para la gran mayoría de los ciudadanos.
