• Sommario/riassunto: In den modernen Gesellschaften des Westens nimmt das Übertragen von materiellen und immateriellen Gütern auf eine nachfolgende Generation einen hohen Stellenwert ein. Angesichts der aktuellen politischen Diskussion um das richtige Maß der Besteuerung von ; Erbschaften ist es kaum verwunderlich, dass Debatten zum Generationenübergang oft auf finanzielle bzw. materielle Aspekte reduziert werden. Damit werden viele Facetten ausgeblendet, die aus der Wirklichkeit der – durchaus manchmal konfliktreichen – Rezeption des Ererbten, der Gestaltung des eigenen Lebensentwurfs und der Weitergabe von ideellen und materiellen Werten nicht wegzudenken sind. Der vorliegende Band, vorläufiges Ergebnis eines interdisziplinären Forschungs- und Publikationsprojekts des Maecenata Instituts für Philanthropie und Zivilgesellschaft, Berlin, und der Universität von Amsterdam, versucht, ökonomische und fiskalische Fragestellungen in einen sozial- und geisteswissenschaftlichen Zusammenhang einzuordnen und die Thematik einem breiteren Publikum zugänglich zu machen.

• Sommario/riassunto: Converso and Morisco are the terms applied to those Jews and Muslims who converted to Christianity in large numbers and usually under duress in late Medieval Spain. The Converso and Morisco Studies publications will examine the implications of these mass conversions for the converts themselves, for their heirs (also referred to as Conversos and Moriscos) and for Medieval and Modern Spanish culture. As the essays in this collection attest, the study of the Converso and Morisco phenomena is not only important for those scholars focused on Spanish society and culture, but for academics everywhere interested in the issues of identity, Otherness, nationalism, religious intolerance and the challenges of modernity.
