Cet essai, centré sur la littérature du xixe siècle, et tout particulièrement sur les romans, se propose de réintroduire la notion de valeur dans la critique littéraire en cherchant à concilier l’histoire des idées, l’analyse textuelle, l’étude des réécritures. Il tente de mettre en relief les composantes esthétiques, éthiques, philosophiques des écrits littéraires. Peut-on établir des critères pour déterminer ce que pourrait être un texte « nul » ? Comment la littérature devient-elle « pensive » ? Peut-on esquisser une histoire des représentations des valeurs en se centrant sur des thèmes transdiscursifs? Telles sont les questions auxquelles cet essai tente de répondre en considérant les valeurs éthiques, pensives comme un effet construit par les textes, mais aussi comme une reprise différenciée, interprétative, dialogique de discours préexistants. |
