Katsushika Hokusai ist ohne Zweifel der seit der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts im Westen berühmteste Künstler Japans. Die Werke Hokusais spiegeln die künstlerischen Ausdrucksformen einer isolierten Kultur wider.
