Issu d’une thèse de doctorat soutenue sous la direction du professeur René Girault, fondé sur l’exploitation d’archives privées inédites, cet ouvrage apporte une contribution originale à l’histoire des débuts de la construction européenne. Réflexion croisée sur un syndicalisme patronal méconnu, celui du grand commerce intérieur français et sur les formes d’organisation de l’Europe qu’il a soutenues, il met au jour les facettes multiples d’un « milieu » qui, au-delà du secteur commercial, comprend les cercles administratifs, politiques, culturels concernés par la défense des intérêts de ce secteur, « milieu » structuré par une même identité libérale et européenne. D’une après-guerre à l’autre on assiste au combat pugnace mené pour la réhabilitation de la fonction commerciale et la reconnaissance institutionnelle de tout un secteur, longtemps en marge du monde patronal, à la résistance |
