Sommario/riassunto

This study provides an overview of the development of German environmentalism from the late nineteenth century to the present. Looking at Germany in an international context, it discusses the full range of environmental issues and how it evolved from a concern about pollution and natural monuments to global warming and biodiversity. It defines environmentalism broadly and looks at civic activism, government policies and culture and life. The book seeks to historicize the notion that Germany may serve as a role model for other industrialized countries.
