|
L’uragano della presidenza Trump ha manifestato al mondo la fragilità della democrazia statunitense. Il razzismo e il nazionalismo bianco, che in passato rimanevano sottotraccia nel discorso pubblico, ora vengono esibiti e alimentano la polarizzazione politica. Il volume indaga in quest’ottica le trasformazioni della destra reazionaria americana, dal Ku Klux Klan alle milizie, fino all’odierna Alt-Right, focalizzandosi sui temi che hanno connotato il suo percorso, quali il timore di una perdita del primato bianco nel paese e l’ostilità nei confronti del femminismo. E mostra come – grazie al decisivo apporto dei media digitali – negli ultimi decenni sia cambiato soprattutto lo stile comunicativo dell’ideologia etnonazionalista: attraverso velate allusioni e accenni a immaginari complotti, essa ha esteso il suo raggio d’azione a milioni di persone ed è approdata al Partito repubblicano.
