pt. 1. The quandary -- pt. 2. From a universe of objects to a universe of experiences -- pt. 3. Physics and the one.

Sommario/riassunto

It is naturally important for any of us to have a correct view of the universe we are in. Having realized that the Newtonian world-view is untenable, this book joins others that are searching for an alternative world-view. It is unique in using quantum physics to promote this search. One aim of the book is to present a lucid exposition of quantum mechanics in terms accessible to the general reader. Another aim is to show that realism (the belief that the outside world exists "from its own side" regardless of acts of consciousness) and locality (the belief that nothing moves faster than light)

What is a diaspora? -- The spaces of dispersion -- Maintaining connections : holding on and letting go -- Managing distance.

Sommario/riassunto

Coined in the third century B.C., the term diaspora has evolved into a buzzword used to describe the migrations of groups as diverse as ethnic populations, religious communities, and even engineers working abroad. This concise book provides a critical introduction to the concept of diaspora, bringing a fresh, synthetic perspective to virtually all aspects of this topic. Stéphane Dufoix incorporates a wealth of case studies-about the Jewish, Armenian, African, Chinese, Greek, and Indian experiences- to illustrate key concepts, give a clear overview on current thinking, and reassess the value of the term for us today.
