Ce volume présente une version de la geste divine de Skanda très populaire en Inde du Sud, fournissant des thèmes à l’iconographie et, lors de la fête du dieu, à des représentations théâtrales. Le Kandapurāṇam est un texte tamoul dont l’auteur, Kacciyappacivācāriyasvāmi, était originaire de Kāñcipuram au Tamil Nadu ; il pourrait dater du xiie siècle. Kacciyappa passe pour avoir fondé son ouvrage sur un texte sanskrit, la Śaṅkarasaṃhitā. Le Kandapurāṇam, qui diffère complètement du texte connu et habituellement désigné sous le nom de Skandapurāṇa, est l’un des recueils fondamentaux des légendes méridionales sur Skanda. Il est ici résumé en français et illustré de photographies prises dans les temples du Sud. Kacciyappa is believed to have based his sources on a Sanskrit text, the Śaṅkarasaṃhitā. The Kandapurāṇam, which differs completely from the known text normally referred to as the Skandapurāṇa, represents one of the most important southern collections of legends on Skanda. It is summed up here in French and illustrated with photographs from South Indian temples. |
