Se ofrece la edición del Discurso poético de Juan de Jáuregui, poeta y literato sevillano instalado en Madrid como criatura de don Gaspar de Guzmán, conde de Olivares. En un momento clave de la polémica gongorina, y diez años después de haber lanzado, bajo cuerda, un exitoso panfleto contra las Soledades, el Antídoto, Jáuregui interviene con un discurso de tono serio, en el que no nombra ni siquiera a sus adversarios, pero sí alude a ellos de forma inequívoca. Propone nada menos que una tercera vía: tan distante de Lope de Vega como de Góngora, rechazando como vulgar la llaneza del uno y como impostura el lenguaje inaudito del otro. Se entiende así que el discurso no fuera del agrado de casi nadie, pese a su elocuencia y elegante estilo. Según el análisis de la editora, la estética de Jáuregui obedece a una coyuntura política y moral: sin duda trata de agradar a Olivares al proponer que la literatura española siga modelos romanos, de Cicerón |
