• Sommario/riassunto: Das Verhältnis von Literatur und Auswärtiger Kulturpolitik hat bislang nur wenig Beachtung gefunden. Sicher gilt, dass Auswärtige Kulturpolitik nur in Ausnahmefällen Einfluss auf die Produktion von Literatur zeigt, dafür aber ganz erheblichen auf die internationale Rezeption deutschsprachiger Literatur. Seit 1919 befasst sich eine eigene Abteilung im Auswärtigen Amt mit auswärtiger Kulturpolitik. Deren Ziele sind seither in wechselnden historisch-politischen Konstellationen im-mer wieder neu bestimmt worden, der Ansatz aber blieb weitgehend gleich: Mit deutscher Kultur sollte implizit eine Vorstellung von deutscher Identität, Mentalität oder Gesellschaftsform vermittelt werden. Aktuell geht es um die Herstellung und das Offenhalten von Dialog- und Begegnungsräumen, die ein internationales Miteinander ermöglichen. Im System der Auswärtigen Kulturpolitik verändert sich die Funktionalität literarischer Texte, sie erhalten gleichsam durch den kulturpolitischen Vermittlungsakt eine zusätzliche Bedeutungsaufladung, die der Leser auch realisieren soll.
