El contenido de este libro se inscribe en un proyecto de investigación más amplio sobre los llamados «movimientos religiosos carismáticos y extáticos». En primer lugar se presenta el arraigo y desarrollo de la tradición protestante en América Latina y particularmente en México, examinando su diversidad y sus variantes internas en el contexto de los procesos de cambio religioso vividos por este país en las últimas décadas. Posteriormente, se presentan los principios teológicos y de experiencia espiritual del pentecostalismo. En su parte final, el libro propone una síntesis comparativa integrando estos tres ejes principales, con el objetivo de avanzar en la comprensión e interpretación de los rasgos estructurales y funcionales que parecen compartir los movimientos de perfil carismático y extático.
