Vorangetrieben von »Schwulen« selbst wurde seit dem 19. Jahrhundert das Konzept schwuler Identität durchgesetzt. Noch heute gelten »Sichtbarkeit« und »Identität« weithin als Schlüsselbegriffe politischer Kämpfe Homosexueller um Anerkennung und Respekt. Jedoch wird aktuell immer deutlicher, dass auf diese Weise ein Ordnungsregime entsteht, das auf Geschlechternorm, Weißsein, Bürgerlichkeit und Paarbeziehung basiert.
