Nell'àmbito della poesia cristiana parafrastica l'Alethia di Claudio Mario Vittorio costituisce un esempio significativo della sintesi che si realizza nel periodo tardoantico tra mondo classico e mondo cristiano. L'opera, composta probabilmente nella prima metà del V secolo, è una riscrittura esametrica in tre libri, preceduti da una Precatio, dei primi 19 capitoli della Genesi dalla creazione del mondo alla distruzione di Sodoma e Gomorra. Questo saggio offre al lettore la traduzione e il commento della Precatio e del primo libro del poema, con l'obiettivo di mettere in luce la complessa trama culturale di cui è intessuto il testo e al tempo stesso di analizzare, con un approccio prevalentemente intertestuale, i procedimenti parafrastici adottati da Claudio Mario Vittorio nella versificazione della narratio biblica.
