Sommario/riassunto

This book constitutes the thoroughly referred post-proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Principles of Distributed Systems, OPODIS 2004, held at Grenoble, France, in December 2004. The 30 revised full papers presented together with abstracts of 2 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected from 102 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on design of distributed systems, ad-hoc networks and mobile agents, grid and networks, security, distributed algorithms, self-stabilization, sensor networks, and task/resource allocation.

Note generali

What makes radical world views so attractive? And how can the revival of extremism be explained from the perspective of cultural and social studies? If major narratives were supposed to be found on the dump of history, they have lately found their way back into the discourse with the return of fundamentalism. The contributions in this book introduce mental figures and forms of rhetoric, symbolism and forms of behavior contained in various major narratives of extremes, and they discuss how the Western world embeds them in its own tale.

Sommario/riassunto

Was macht radikale Weltbilder so attraktiv?
