Portret van een veelzijdig componist. 'De meester van de klinkende maskers', zo karakteriseerde de muziekfilosoof Theodor Adorno ooit Maurice Ravel. Als geen ander kan Ravel feilloos een muzikaal karakter oproepen, waarachter hij zich vervolgens behaaglijk verschanst. Zo spat de Spaanse vurigheid van het blad in Rapsodie espagnole, terwijl de onderkoelde barok-imitatie in Le tombeau de Couperin de luisteraar koude rillingen bezorgt. En wie zou denken dat de rokerige jazzy-atmosfeer van het Pianoconcerto en de geoliede orkestmachine van de Bolero uit het brein van dezelfde componist komen? Dit boek biedt een kennismaking met een componist die zich niet gemakkelijk laat kennen. Mangrove ecosystems occur in the inter-tidal region between sea and land in tropical and sub-tropical latitudes and provide important ecosystem goods and services. These forests help stabilize shorelines and reduce the devastating impact of natural disasters such as tsunamis and hurricanes. They serve as breeding and nursing grounds for marine species, and are sources of food, medicine, fuel, and building materials for local communities. However, these ecosystems have been declining at an alarming rate—perhaps even more rapidly than inland tropical forests—and much of what remains is in a degraded condition. Habitat destruction through human encroachment has been the primary cause of mangrove loss. The loss of mangrove habitats has resulted in a decline in fishery resources and biodiversity. This book provides an up-to-date account of mangrove ecosystems in Asia as well as restoration and ecosystem management techniques to ensure the sustainability and conservation of the mangrove. The book is divided into sections presenting the distribution and status of mangrove ecosystems in Asia, the challenges they are facing, the issues and opportunities arising from these challenges, and management strategies for mangrove conservation. |

In der sowjetischen Besatzungszone traten seit 1946 Volksrichter zunehmend an die Stelle der zahlreichen Richter und Staatsanwälte, die im Zuge der Entnazifizierung aus der Justiz entfernt worden waren. Dieser Elitenaustausch bildete ein zentrales Mittel zur Transformierung des Justizwesens in der entstehenden DDR. Bisher weitgehend unbekannte Quellen veranschaulichen die Entscheidungen der zentralen Instanzen (Zentralverwaltung für Justiz, SMAD, SED) und geben Aufschluß über die Entwicklung der zunächst rein fachlichen, später jedoch stark ideologisierten Kurzausbildung der neuen Juristenelite. Daß deren Fortbildung nicht nur dazu diente, fachliche Defizite auszugleichen, sondern auch justizsteuernde Funktionen besaß, wird ebenso deutlich wie das Ziel, die Volksrichter möglichst rasch in Führungspositionen zu bringen.
