• Sommario/riassunto: Im Untergang erreichte die allgegenwärtige Gewalt des NS-Regimes ihren letzten Höhepunkt. Sven Keller untersucht die "Endphasenverbrechen" und fragt nach den Bedingungen der Gewalt sowie nach ihrer Funktion. Der systematische Terror stabilisierte das Regime, das damit bis zum Schluss seine Handlungsfähigkeit bewies. Während viele das Kriegsende herbeisehnten, stemmten sich Durchhaltefanatiker gegen Niederlage und Zusammenbruch. Orientierung bot ihnen dabei die tödliche Exklusionslogik der Volksgemeinschaftsideologie: Sie stempelte Zwangsarbeiter, Häftlinge und kriegsmüde Deutsche zu "Rassefeinden", "Volksverrätern" und "Defaitisten", die Volk und Front von innen bedrohten. Tausende fielen so noch in letzter Minute dem Wahn zum Opfer, ein zweites "1918" zu verhindern. Noch nie ist dieser schreckliche Epilog von Hitlers Herrschaft auf so breiter Quellenbasis und so eindringlich beschrieben worden.
