La boxe est un affrontement à l’Autre dont l’enjeu dépasse les seules limites du gymnase. Jérôme Beauchez l’a compris en transpirant avec les boxeurs, dont il a partagé les entraînements et recueilli les récits de vie. Décrivant l’expérience du face-à-face dans toutes ses dimensions, l’auteur montre les visages de l’adversité tels qu’ils apparaissent aux combattants. Les existences de ces hommes issus des quartiers populaires et de l’immigration sont vécues à l’intersection des dominations. Boxer équivaut dès lors à résister ; un geste dont la capacité des corps à « encaisser » les coups et en donner ne constitue qu’un aspect. Car il y a un au-delà du corps à corps, dans la quotidienneté des luttes contre le racisme ordinaire et la disqualification sociale. Au plus près de la rudesse charnelle des combats se révèlent ainsi toutes ces épreuves qui légitiment celle du ring et creusent l’empreinte du poing. |
