|
Research has found immigrant youth perform better in school compared to their native-born peers. However, academic performance deteriorates with acculturation to US culture, whereas bilingualism has been associated with better performance in school. Peréa examined whether language acculturation could explain the variation in academic grades among Dominican children of immigrants, and tested whether children who preferred Spanish and English equally had better grades than those who preferred English only. Transvaluant les signes de l'échec et de la réussite, la malédiction de l'écrivain est l'un des grands mythes de la littérature moderne. « Il faut des malheurs, et des plus grands, pour faire ce qu'il y a de plus beau dans le plus beau des arts », écrivait un Louis de Bonald. « Le ressentiment est nécessaire à toute création artistique véritable », écrit plus près de nous un Michel Houellebecq. Ce mythe de la malédiction n'en est pas moins une croyance vécue, ayant orienté des vies entières d'artistes et d'écrivains. Un vaste continent de maudits se dessine ainsi, du XIXe au XXIe siècle, où le poète crotté voisine avec le styliste martyr de son art, où le nègre de génie le dispute au grand artiste sombrant dans la folie, où l'écrivain populaire ne se prive pas quelquefois de cette forme singulière de légitimité que procure le malheur. Le propos du présent volume n'est pas de dresser un nouveau palmarès des poètes maudits ou des acteurs obscurs de la scène littéraire, mais d'examiner les conditions de perpétuation d'une croyance - le malheur de l'auteur comme fondement de la valeur d'une œuvre - à travers un ensemble de textes et d'images débordant les limites géographiques et culturelles de la France. |
