|
The need for energy is increasing and at the same time production from the conventional reservoirs is declining quickly. This requires an economically and technically feasible source of energy for the coming years. Among some alternative future energy solutions the most approachable source is from unconventional reservoirs. As the name "unconventional" implies it requires different and challenging approach to characterize and to develop such a resource. This special issue covers some of the technical challenges for developing unconventional energy sources from shale gas/oil, tight gas sand, and coalbed methane. |

|
Die GoldbuÌste des Kaisers Septimius Severus (193-211 n. Chr.) wurde im Jahr 1965 in Didymoteicho, dem antiken Plotinopolis (Nordgriechenland) gefunden. Dieser uÌberaus seltene Fund hochstehender Goldschmiedearbeit liegt erstmals ausfuÌhrlich untersucht und bebildert vor. Es handelt sich um die eine von nur zwei erhaltenen groÌÃeren GoldbuÌsten roÌmischer Kaiser; das zweite, leicht unterlebensgroÃe Exemplar ist die BuÌste von Marc Aurel aus Avenches (Schweiz). Die 28 cm hohe GoldbuÌste des Septimius Severus wiegt knapp drei roÌmische Pfund (980 g) und entspricht somit einem vielfach fuÌr solche Objekte verwendeten Gewichtsmodul. GoldportraÌts waren dem Kaiser vorbehalten. Als portable Bildnisse konnten sie den Kaiser bei offiziellen Handlungen wie am Gericht vertreten, sie dienten aber auch im Kaiserkult sowie in der roÌmischen Armee, wo sie an der Spitze von Standarten mitgetragen wurden. |
Cardiology and cardiovascular sciences are two rapidly growing areas in medicine, with heart diseases being the number one cause of death worldwide. The last four decades have witnessed many developments in various cardiological sciences, including coronary artery disease, valve disease, heart failure, congenital heart diseases, and cardiovascular imaging, with a number of newly developed concepts, such as cardio-oncology, cardio-renal diseases, and preventive cardiology. This Special Issue (SI) of the Journal of Clinical Medicine, entitled "JCM-Advances in Cardiology", focuses on recent advances in the cardiological sciences. It published 8 research articles of significant clinical and scientific value. |
