La question de la violence et de son traitement est une préoccupation sociale de plus en plus grande, qui suscite des débats passionnés. À cette question, la psychologie est tenue de répondre. De la violence en effet, on parle de plus en plus, ce qui n'empêche semble-t-il nullement le surgissement de ses diverses manifestations : guerre, tortures, terrorisme, violences de la rue, violences sexuelles, conjugales, physiques et/ou psychiques, violences de la société, violences symboliques, violences dans les entreprises, harcèlement, licenciements de masse, prédominance de la réussite économique sur l'harmonie des relations humaines, etc.  Ces violences sont agies ou subies, elles sont le fait de sujets qui répondent parfois à des contraintes psychiques, pulsionnelles, interpersonnelles, sociales.



Comment les psychologues considèrent-ils les manifestations de la violence auxquelles ils ont affaire, comment en envisagent-ils le traitement, quelles peuvent être les solutions aux niveaux individuel et collectif ? De l'engrenage de la destruction guerrière au déchaînement d'une jouissance qui ne serait plus interdite, du passage à l'acte psychopathique à la mise en acte d'un scénario pervers, de la banalisation de l'agression à la préméditation d'un crime, la violence engage des êtres humains dans des rôles dont ils deviennent souvent les acteurs involontaires. Bourreaux et victimes sont liés par les faits sur une scène où le réel se mélange à la face la plus sombre de l'imaginaire.
