En 1931, alors que l'Espagne vit un bouleversement politique sans précédent et proclame la deuxième République, Luis Cernuda (1902-1963) écrit Les plaisirs interdits, recueil qui est sans aucun doute l'un des chefs-d'oeuvre du surréalisme et une revendication de l'amour homosexuel inédite dans la littérature espagnole. Alternant poèmes en prose et en vers, Les plaisirs interdits plonge le lecteur dans un univers habité par un imaginaire déliquescent, où la voix poétique clame un désir qui se heurte à une réalité hostile.
