Einen Preis für Dichtung hatte Joseph Pulitzer ursprünglich nicht vorgesehen. Erst eine Initiative der Poetry Society of America gab den Anstoß zur Gründung dieses Preises, der 1922 zum ersten Mal verliehen wurde. Der Supplement-Band dokumentiert die gesamte Entwicklungsgeschichte der Preisverleihungen in dieser Kategorie. Die Darstellung basiert hauptsächlich auf vertraulichen Jury-Protokollen aus dem Pulitzer-Preis-Büro an der New Yorker Columbia-Universität. Der 23. Band bildet den Abschluss der Reihe "The Pulitzer Prize Archive", in der sämtliche Kategorien des renommierten Ehrungssystems dargestellt worden sind: sowohl die Preise in journalistischen Bereichen als auch jene in den literarischen Kategorien Sachbuch, Belletristik, Theater und Musik. |
