Ce livre décrit l'ostéopathie moderne, la compare à celle des origines et propose une réflexion sur la reconnaissance scientifique à laquelle cette discipline aspire. La pratique de l'ostéopathie repose aujourd'hui sur des hypothèses biomécaniques ou neurophysiologiques susceptibles d'être vérifiées scientifiquement. Et pourtant, si une partie des praticiens s'inscrit dans une démarche scientifique, une autre partie continue à suivre la théorie fondatrice, telle qu'elle a été imaginée au XIXe siècle. Après avoir analysé l'histoire de la discipline, l'auteur « ouvre la trousse » de l'ostéopathe et décrit les différentes techniques thérapeutiques dont il dispose, celles qui « craquent » et les autres, ainsi que le raisonnement qui sous-tend chaque intervention. Tout au long de l'ouvrage, il souligne que pour être reconnue comme une discipline rigoureuse et respectable, l'ostéopathie doit se soumettre à une véritable critique scientifique. |
