Abstract:"L'arte non appare più collegata e inserita nella speculazioneteologica, ma diventa strumento di devozione,di appartenenza confessionale, di disciplinamentoreligioso e anche elemento di confronto politico,manifestazione di potere. L'arte sacra si separadall'arte senza aggettivi, ma non senza un processod'osmosi di lungo periodo che impregna tutta la nostra cultura" Il volume è centrato sull'opera del cardinale Gabriele Paleotti, che con un suo celebre trattato pose con forza il problema dell'aderenza dell'arte alla nuova spiritualità tridentina. La Roma papale, già avviata agli splendori della propria autocelebrazione, respinse tuttavia la rigorosa precettistica del Paleotti. Due posizioni inconciliabili a cui corrisponde da una parte la quotidianità sofferta di Caravaggio e dall'altra l'esaltazione atemporale del divino tipica del barocco trionfante. |

Since the military overthrow of President Mursi in mid-2013, Egypt has witnessed an authoritarian rollback. Through a combination of repression and nationalist securitizing discourses, popular pressure for reform was successfully channelled into a state-centric model of governance. But despite state violence and the restriction of public spaces, protests have anything but ceased. Contested Legitimacies explores this resilience of protest despite unprecedented repression through an approach attuned to the physical and discursive interactions among key players in Egypt's post-revolutionary arena.
