Existe-t-il un cinéma « stalinien » ? Cette question, loin d'être formelle, est essentielle pour saisir la complexité des relations qui se sont nouées, dans l'Union soviétique de Staline, entre le cinéma et le pouvoir politique. Que la production et la diffusion des images aient été strictement contrôlées, que les autorités aient imposé une esthétique - celle du réalisme socialiste -, que Staline, dans la continuité de la politique entreprise par Lénine, ait voulu faire du septième art l'un des principaux outils de sa propagande, personne ne le contestera. Mais cela signifie-t-il pour autant que le cinéma soviétique ait été enfermé pendant plus de vingt-cinq ans dans un moule rigide et étouffant ? Au-delà d'une uniformité apparente de la production, ne peut-on déceler, ici et là, des aspérités, des divergences, voire des espaces d'autonomie ? Telles sont les questions abordées par ce collectif d'auteurs, français et étrangers, qui proposent de porter un regard nouveau sur l'histoire de ce cinéma, en s'intéressant tout autant aux films eux-mêmes qu'à leurs conditions de fabrication et de diffusion. |
