'Imagining Women Readers' reassesses the cultural significance of women's reading in the period 1789-1820. While much attention has been paid to the moral panic provoked by novel-reading during this period, this study offers a more progressive and enabling narrative. From the turbulent years following the French Revolution to the fiction of Jane Austen, 'Imagining Women Readers' charts the rise of a self-regulating reader, who possesses both moral and cultural authority. |

Après la longue récession qui a suivi le second choc pétrolier, la reprise économique est actuellement amorcée dans la plupart des grands pays de l'OCDE. Elle est d'une importance variable selon les pays : si les Etats-Unis connaissent d'ores et déjà une croissance rapide de la production et une réduction sensible du chômage, on n'observe dans certains pays européens que les tout premiers signes d'un redressement. Néanmoins, la situation semble devoir s'améliorer dans presque tous les pays. En dehors de l'Amérique du Nord, toutefois, on continue de craindré que la reprise ne se révèle fragile dans le cadre de la politique actuellement suivie.
