Sommario/riassunto

Examining the contributing factors in the shaping of Gypsy identity in the United Kingdom, this study evaluates both recent and historic tendencies that now misrepresent or overlook Gypsy culture. From examining the implications of skin color to demystifying the often confused history of nomadic settlements, this resource presents an insightful and important look into the identity, and perceptions of that identity, within Gypsy culture.

Sommario/riassunto

The importance of the body in the culture of the Middle Ages has repeatedly been the focus of research in recent years - as well as questions about the influence of perception mechanisms and processes on the literature and art of the time. That both areas of research belong together is already supported by the ancient rhetoric, in which the deformed corporeality is given a special function of stimulating perception. The complicated and often controversially discussed interrelationship of 'inside' and 'outside' also suggests that the deformed body in particular raises certain expectations with regard to the associated interior, but at the same time triggers very specific processes of perception in a viewer of this deformed body.  In addition to body and perception, a third becomes visible - the other, once understood as the strangeness that appears in the contemplation and reflection of the half-familiar deformation, once as the primal self, the soul itself, as the complement of the corrupted shell. The band (as well as the follow-up band) not only unites literary and art historical contributions, but at the same time bridges the gap to the history of medicine, to the Dis/ability Studies u. in order to show that not only the artificially-artistically designed, but also the 'real' deformed body is to be understood in its relation to the perception theories of its time.

Sommario/riassunto

This book provides insights into important new developments in the area of statistical quality control and critically discusses methods used in on-line and off-line statistical quality control. The book is divided into three parts: Part I covers statistical process control, Part II deals with design of experiments, while Part III focuses on fields such as reliability theory and data quality. The 12th International Workshop on Intelligent Statistical Quality Control (Hamburg, Germany, August 16 – 19, 2016) was jointly organized by Professors Sven Knoth and Wolfgang Schmid. The contributions presented in this volume were carefully selected and reviewed by the conference’s scientific program committee. Taken together, they bridge the gap between theory and practice, making the book of interest to both practitioners and researchers in the field of quality control.
