In einer der größten Längsschnittstudien dieser Art liefert der Autor einen empirischen Nachweis für die positive Wirkung bildungsbezogener Auslandsaufenthalte auf die Entwicklung interkultureller Kompetenzen. Erstmalig wird aufgezeigt, dass der Zugewinn interkultureller Kompetenzen weitgehend unabhängig von der Gestaltungsform der Auslandsaufenthalte auftritt. Weitere Analysen beziehen die Konstrukte Offenheit für Erfahrungen, Extraversion, Lebenszufriedenheit und allgemeine Selbstwirksamkeit ein.
