Quebec Prosperity: Taking the Next Step examines Quebec's economic performance, both in Canada and in comparison to the United States, as well as its effect on Quebec's economic policy. The key question is why Quebec's economic performance has consistently been below its potential: Quebecers are poorer and more often unemployed than they should be. We will examine Quebec's political structure and its effect on economic performance using, on the one hand, empirical and peer-reviewed research on the relationship between various policy choices and, on the other hand, prosperity and job creation. We very often find that those responsible for the political orientations of the Quebec government have made political choices which restrict economic potential, while increasing the power and resources of the government. This study ends with policy recommendations that could lead to a more prosperous Quebec. |
