|
By consequence of the Karabakh War in 2020 and due to Azerbaijanian revisionism concerning the history, culture and cultural monuments of the region, the discussion on Caucasian "Albania", which is little known in the West in both academic and public circles, has been reignited. The handbook provides an overview of the current state of research on the Caucasian "Albanians" in an objective, scientifically sound manner. The contributions are not necessarily intended to reveal new scientific findings but rather to summarise approved knowledge. The volume brings together internationally renowned scholars, researchers and practitioners from various fields of studies reporting on and reviewing the state of research concerning the Caucasian "Albanians", their history and archaeology, their language and written monuments, their religion, church history and their art, including their relation to the Udi people of today. The companion is intended to neutrally introduce the readership to the subject of Caucasian Albania from various perspectives. |

Nominoë : roi de Bretagne au IXe siècle. Célèbre pour avoir vaincu l'empereur Charles le Chauve à Ballon en 845 et l'avoir chassé de la péninsule armoricaine, fondant ainsi pour sept cents ans l'indépendance de son pays. Fondateur de l'abbaye de Bedon, sous la houlette de saint Conwoïon, son collaborateur et ami. Mort en 851, alors qu'ayant conquis une partie du Cotentin, du Maine et de l'Anjou, il marchait en direction de la douce France. L'un de ses successeurs immédiats, Salomon, pourra ainsi s'intituler « par la grâce de Dieu prince de toute la Bretagne et d'une bonne partie des Gaules ». Oui, mais... les Bretons de Nominoë ? Ceux qui raccompagnaient, ceux qui dirigeaient avec lui le royaume de Bretagne, ceux qui se retiraient au monastère de Bedon, ceux qui vivaient dans la Grande Armorique, de Brest à Ancenis et jusqu'à Angers, de Quimper à Dol et jusque dans la future Normandie, ces Bretons, ancêtres de l'actuel peuple breton, qui étaient-ils ? L'ambition de ce livre n'est pas de procurer une biographie de Nominoë, mais bien d'exposer l'étal du monde qui lui était familier, de dévoiler l'existence de ses compagnons et de ses sujets. Ainsi s'esquisse un tableau d'ensemble de celle nation, que formaient les Bretons continentaux vers la fin du premier millénaire de notre ère. Leurs descendants pourront y trouver ample matière à réflexions et y approfondir sans aucun doute leur identité. Quant aux autres lecteurs, ils y découvriront peut-être l'âme de « ce peuple original et conscient de l'être » - pour reprendre les mots de Jean-Christophe Cassard - ou du moins ils apprendront à en mieux connaître l'histoire et la destinée. |
