Der Großindustrielle Fritz Thyssen setzte sich früh für Hitler ein, brach aber 1939 mit dem NS-Regime, das ihn daraufhin enteignete. Nach 1945 rang er um die Rückerstattung. Das Buch erörtert die Erwartungen, Fehlwahrnehmungen und Brüche im Verhältnis Fritz Thyssens zum Nationalsozialismus. Mit seiner Flucht aus Deutschland riskierte er die Enteignung seines Vermögens – das NS-Regime ordnete |

sie im Dezember 1939 an. Der Autor zeigt, wie der komplexe Prozess der Beschlagnahme und Verwertung des privaten und industriellen Vermögens verlief. Ebenso untersucht er das Entnazifizierungsverfahren, das 1948 mit der Frage konfrontiert war, inwieweit Thyssens Bruch mit dem Regime die frühere Förderung Hitlers aufwiegen könne. Die Einstufung als »Minderbelasteter« ermöglichte es, die Rückerstattung der Vermögenswerte zu beantragen. Die hier erstmals aus den Quellen erhellte Restitution war mit wirtschaftspolitischen Fragen verknüpft, die aus dem Fall Thyssen einen Sonderfall der »Wiedergutmachung« machten. |
