Ce volume constitue la publication de la foui Ile d’une mine d’argent exploitée dans la 2e moitié du XVIe s., le filon St-Louis, localisé dans le district de Ste-Marie-aux-Mines (Haut-Rhin). L’étude de ce site pilote de l’archéologie minière a été abordée de façon pluridisciplinaire et apparaît comme un modèle de collaboration entre archéologues, spéléologues et géologues. Le dépouillement des documents d’archives, l’inventaire des vestiges de surface et souterrains, la mise en évidence de l’architecture des ouvrages miniers et des techniques de creusement ainsi qu’une étude minéralogique, structurale et climatologique ont permis d’aboutir à la reconstitution de l’évolution de cette exploitation qui appartient à l’un des sites miniers les plus intéressants d’Europe. Haut-Rhin department of France. The study of the site introduces new methods to the archaeology of mining : the interdisciplinary approach adopted is a model of collaboration between archaeologist, speleologist and geologist. The project involves archival research, a survey of surface and belowground remains and the use of archaeological evidence to analyse how the mine was constructed and worked. The mineralogical, structural and climatological aspects of the site are also discussed. The study succeeds in reconstructing the life-history of an ancient mine located in one of the most historically interesting mining areas of Europe. |
