Das hier erstmals historisch-kritisch edierte Werk enthält neben 47 Passionsliedern zwei ausführliche Vorreden Rists sowie zahlreiche sog. Ehrenschriften, die das äußerst dichte Kommunikationsnetzwerk des Dichters zutage treten lassen. Die Quellentexte werden durch einen textkritischen Apparat und einen reichhaltigen Stellenkommentar (Nachweis von Traditionsgut, Klärung prosopographischer, bibliographischer und historischer Sachverhalte) sowie durch editorische Berichte, Nachworte und Register präzise erschlossen. Neben den Kompositionen Martin Colers werden in einem Anhang die früheren, 1648 publizierten 19 Lieder aus der Feder Hinrich Papes sowie die trotz des Verlustes des Drucks von 1661 teilweise sekundär überlieferten geistlichen Lieder Colers aus den Rist gewidmeten ‚Opfern, die GOtt gefallen‘ von Brandanus Langejanus mitgeteilt.Die Edition ist geeignet, unerwartete Einblicke in die Theologie-, Literatur- und Musikgeschichte der Barockzeit zu gewähren. |
Presented for the first time in a historical-critical edition, Passion Devotions is Rist’s twelfth collection of hymns and the last of his sacred works to be published during his lifetime. It is the product of Rist’s fruitful cooperation with the Wolfenbüttel Choirmaster Martin Coler, and an extraordinary lyrical example of the multiple facets of Baroque Lutheran passion theology and piety. |
